Sitting on My “Christian” Couch

Posted by: Michael Feather   in Uncategorized

I often think about the way we Christians label things as “christian.” How can we do that? Is it legitimate?

I saw this blog that raises the same question and I wanted to point you to it. Let me know what you think about it. Enjoy!

I don’t think that Scripture labels anything “Christian” except for people. So, when we call something “Christian” that isn’t a person, we aren’t describing it in the best way. (Is my Christian CD going to Heaven with me?) It seems a better option would be to help people think about things in terms of being “God-honoring” or “Spirit-grieving.” This would alleviate the “Christian” confusion.

JJ,
Great comment. I agree completely. When we start to use “God-honoring” or “Spirit-grieving” we can actually have a discussion about what would fit into each of these categories.
One of the ways I think we need to think about this is in “Christian music.” Some music that is labeled this way would in my mind fall under the category of “Spirit-grieving” and that should cause us to question what is happening.
This is not just an example of semantics. It is really important to think about.
Thanks.
