In a word, disturbing.
That is how I viewed chapter 7 of this well written book. Even though I admitted last time I was not sure I liked the narrator, I found myself cheering for him in the kite contest. I realized I wanted him to have that relationship with his father that was “promised” if he won. This is what a good story will do. Read the rest of this entry »
The revelation of Adam Monroe has developed into, in my opinion, the most exciting storyline of this season. I can’t believe that I haven’t had more to say about it in this forum. Let’s fix that. Read the rest of this entry »
Here is a link to a fascinating movie coming out in February. Check it out and let me know what you think.
The movie is called Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. It should at the very least stir up some controversy.
Any comments? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? :)

A favorite issue among candidates seeking to appeal to the Christian or “Christian” voters is gay marriage. It has become the case that the definition of the Christian-friendly position on the matter is to endorse a Constitutional amendment banning such unions. I can understand the appeal of a person running for public office who is offended by the same things that offend God. I can certainly understand the desire discourage, curb, or eliminate any activity that grieves the God I love. What I have difficulty with, is finding basis in Scripture or the U.S. Constitution to use our government to bring this about. Read the rest of this entry »
Right before Thanksgiving, I borrowed and watched a movie called 28 Days Later. I’m not typically a big fan of horror movies, but I wanted to know what people were talking about with this film. The movie was interesting, though I cannot say that I liked it. I’m still not sure. What it did cause me to do is reflect a bit on how we as Christians should view the horror genre.
Evidently I am not the only one who has been thinking about this recently. I just read a post that deals with the same issue. If you are interested in this question, check out Cinemagogue. I would love to hear what you think about what James Harleman says there.
After you read it, leave a comment here. It would be great for us to discuss this.

Hello everyone. I think it would be good to hold off on the reading discussion of The Kite Runner until next week. If you have already read and want to post, feel free to email your post to me and I will post it as the discussion starter. I plan on posting or commenting later next week. I decided, rather late, that I would take Thanksgiving off. Pam, Kohl and I went to Nags Head and I didn’t even take the computer. I intended to, but forgot it and did not miss it. :) It was a good day trip and gave us a chance to relax.
I pray you have had a great Thanksgiving since we all have many things to be thankful for.

The Heroes of NBC Monday nights are capable of some amazing feats. I watch their adventures weekly, often wishing that I could do the things they can. My roommate and I have frequent debates over what one superpower we would choose if given the opportunity. Read the rest of this entry »
I want to start a short series on this biblical passage and its implications for interacting with the culture. In preparation for this series, I thought I would encourage you to read the passage in question (Romans 1:18-32) and also give you a link to the notes as well as the audio. In the next couple of days I will post a few thoughts and look forward to your comments.
To listen to the first audio or to read the notes I created for this passage, please visit our church website here.
To quote a certain governor, “I’ll be back.”

With the next major national election now less than a year away, I’d like to talk about some of the issues typically considered by Christians when casting their ballots. My hope is that in addition to discussing these topics individually, we may also be able to discuss how we should view the role of our government and our roles as citizens.
I’d like to start with an issue that gets a lot of attention from Christian and secular media, homosexuality. Read the rest of this entry »
